“My top recommendation for a beautiful Christmas market destination that won’t break the bank is the picturesque city of Bonn,” noted travel blogger Penelope Bielckus of The Flyaway Girl. She said that four-star hotels in the city center cost less than $355 for a three-night stay, with budget options available for under $76 per night. Plus, “you can easily hop on a train and be in Cologne’s city centre in just half an hour.” Bielckus revealed an unexpected gem: “If you can’t choose between a ski adventure or heading off on a city getaway, then you need to keep Batumi in the cards.” Five-star hotels cost less than $76 for three nights, and nearby Goderdzi offers ski passes for just $11 – a fraction of Western resort prices.
“The northern lights appear about 200 nights per year,” said Mercedes Zach of ASAP Tickets. She recommended the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort’s glass igloos for aurora viewing, but said more affordable options start from $55 per night, “from seaside villas to forest cabins with large windows and glass roofs.”
