Snagging a last-minute flight when you need it might seem like a relief but it can also sting if you end up paying more than you’d like. “Booking last-minute travel deals can sometimes allow travelers to save on airfare, however, there might also be some hidden costs that not many people know about,” said Mercedes Zach, travel expert at ASAP Tickets, part of Trevolution Group.
Here’s Zach’s advice regarding unexpected costs of booking last-minute flights and how to avoid them. “When it comes to popular destinations and specific dates with high demand, airlines typically adjust seat prices based on that demand,” said Zach. “As the flight departure time approaches, the remaining seats become more valuable to the airline, and they know that those who need to take the flight will be willing to pay for their seat regardless of its price.” Zach explained that while last-minute flights generally tend to be pricier than those booked ahead, there are still some options for cutting costs. “Because airfares often fluctuate, it’s worth monitoring your route and comparing prices with several different travel agencies, airlines and search engines to find the best deals that match the needs of your itinerary,” she said. “If a direct flight is too expensive, consider connecting flights and secondary airports. You may even combine multiple airlines or different modes of transportation to get to your destination.” Read the complete article here.
