Perugia is the perfect alternative for wallet-savvy travelers who love Italy but want to avoid the tourist crowds and higher prices found in Rome and Florence. “A meal at a local restaurant typically costs between $20 and $40 per person, which makes it a rather affordable travel destination compared to other, more popular Italian cities,” said Mercedes Zach, a travel expert at ASAP Tickets, part of Trevolution Group. Located in the Umbria region, the hilltop city charms visitors with its medieval streets, panoramic views and relaxed vibe. “There are free activities to engage in while in Perugia, such as taking walking tours around the historic town center, visiting local markets or attending cultural events that are open to the general public and can enrich the whole travel experience without breaking the bank,” Zach said.
